Posted: Tue Jun 13, 2006 9:23 am Post subject: How and when does ETA get updated?
Tomtom traffic predicted a journey delay of an hour because of a traffic jam. So the ETA was extended from 8:01 to 8:55. However, the traffic was moving smoothly so I expected the ETA to gradually reduce. However, instead of a gradual reduction in minutes (ie 8:55, 8:54, 8:53) as I expected, it jumped in multi-minute intervals (ie 8:55, 8:47, 8:35). I could not work out if it was waiting until the estimate varied by x minutes or if it was recalculating the whole thing every y minutes.
The problem is the way the traffic is reported, not TT. It seems that between A1 to C1 here the traffic is is divided into segments A1 to B1, B1 to C1 etc and each of these has a time associated with it e.g. A1 to B1 could be five minutes and B1 to C1 could be 3 minutes giving a total traffic alert of 8 minutes, but ONLY when you cross B1 does the 5 minutes get taken off..
That seesm to be the way it works for me... _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk)
