I will be moving soon to Angola, West Africa.
I am running a Garmin Quest in Europe, but Garmin does not provide detailed maps for Angola and its capital Luanda.
Can anyone help with some information on how to get the maps I need. I could change the hardware if necessary.
Thanks in advance,
Antonio |

The closest thing I have seen for maps of Africa is this one;
http://www.garmap.com/
They cover most southern african countries but nothing for Angola.
Perhaps drop them an email to see if they have anything in the pipeline.
Regards

I'm not an expert on Africa, but assuming that you don't want navigation software (which may not be available). I believe that there is software where you can scan printed maps and have your position overlayed onto it. You would then know where you are.
Perhaps if anyone knows more on this subject, they could give more information. (Even if just to say that what I am suggesting isn't possible) |

neil01, I think that is a possibility but the issue is most likley that like most "real" african countries the government has bigger problems than providing maps. I suspect that if any topographical maps do exist they are probably very old. The information would probably not be very detailed or accurate enough to use with a GPS.
The reason that most southern african countries have maps available is probably due to cross border business interests with South Africa where the resources/systems are available to create maps.
