Hi guys, first post here so here goes. I recently bought an T-Mobile MDA Vario with CoPilot 6 Live bundled in. Now, it installed off the SD card perfect and had it working fine (installed to the SD card), but I then decided to uninstall it to install it on the device instead. Again, working fine. I installed a few other apps on the device and shortly ran out of storage on the device itself, so decided to uninstall a few programs and reinstall onto the SD card instead. Before this I had deleted a few things off the SD card, but made sure I kept the "2577 Folder" that CoPilot needs to install from (which I thought is the only folder needed by copilot). Now, I must of deleted another folder off the card that copilot needs to install because after I install it again (to device or card) and put in my product key I get a message saying:
"Unable to open copilot. Please make sure the storage card is inserted or that the data has been properly downloaded."
I then tried to install the program off the CD from my pc, but this comes up with an "unspecified error" and then says my product key is invalid when I type it in from the scatch-off credit card that came with the program, so I cant even install the program on my pc! Which I guess you can then install to the device after you install the pc version. I'm stuck, because I now cant install from SD card or pc! Can anyone help? If anyone can tell me exactly what files I need on the SD card to start (or what files and directories are on there from factory), that would be great, as I assume you can copy these from the CD? I tried copying the .cab file from the cd onto the device and install again, but get the same error. Please help me. And if someone can explain why the pc version doesnt like my official product key that would be helpful also! I saw someones post on this forum about backing up the CFG files? Maybe I deleted these by mistake and this holds info on my product key or something? Thanks in advance guys. Hope you can help! Best Regards, Clint.
I have in the past had problems loading to the PPC using the supplied disks. In fact I have never succeeded!
What I do, is make sure that when loading CoPilot, only the desktop version is selected, and then I use the Data download wizard to create the files for the PDA.
I have to admit, that due to other problems I now create the files on the desktop's hard drive (just select a desktop hard drive letter when asked for a location) two folders (2577, and copilot) are created. These can then be copied to the SD card (preferably via a reader unless you want a long break for a drink)
To complicate matters further, I have also had problems loading the desktop application; it installs, then right at the very end (when you are asked about viewing the readme file) it comes up with an error message, and if you continue it deletes itself, or goes around in circles.
If you find this happens to you - don't worry, I have found a workaround - turn the power off at the mains (and remove the battery if a laptop). When the PC is re-booted everything is OK.
In view of the rather drastic action (turning a PC off is not normally to be recommended) I would suggest that you install to a freshly booted PC with the minimum of additional programs running. Additionally, any internet connection should be disabled (by disconnecting the lead if possible) since (as detailed in ALK's instructions) anti-virus/firewall software should be disabled during the installation.
