I don't think it will, I have had 2 N70 handsets with this firmware and neither worked effectively. Usual "No GPS Device" error |

Does anyone have experience of runnig TT from a 3rd party card. I am considering buying a 1Gb card, transfering TT and phone supplied apps to and, and still have space for lost of music...... ?
That will then bring the next limitation into play - battery life, anyone else have that issue ? |
If you're going to use a large card, with the view of having everything on it.... backup all files/images/mp3 etc as lost mine do to conflict with mp4 tv episode which scrambled everything. I now use 1 card for tomtom only and another for everything else & I backup regularly! Oh, I also found thing slowed down alot with 1gb mmc card. Using 512mb rsmmc dv now. |

on-nick,
The free memory you say will be RAM so you have plenty for TT and other apps to run in. My n70 had about 20Mb free when running TT but still failed every now and then. That's why it's odd the 6680 runs okay with far less RAM than the n70 has.
Have to see what firmware it comes back with from Nokia. |

Are people having this problem with all versions of TTM? I know that ver 5.00 freezes has the upgrade to ver 5.20 made any difference? |

I had one or two freezes and lots of GPS drop-outs with v5.2. Never tried any earlier versions. Still waiting for Nokia to sort the phone after died during the flash process.
People be warned... if the flash process fails it's off to Nokia with the phone. The N70 can only be flashed over USB in service centres so if it fails there's no second chance. Back at Nokia they have powered flash harnesses available for the N70. |

I have had freezes and "No GPS Device" on versions 5.0 5.2 and most recently 5.202 which is supposed to be for Nokia's.
No one seems certain whether it's the N70, TTM or both that are at fault. |

I've had a lost GPS connection when running another GPS application on the N70 on the older firmware (2.?). The application was Power Navigation trial. So I don't think we can totally blame TomTom this time.
The latest firmware from Nokia (V 3.0546.2.3) fixes BT compatibility issues with headsets so obviously some changes to BT stack software.
Some mention v5 firmware but the service centre I went to said no such firmware existed but he was downloading newer than V3.0546.2.3 when he did/killed my phone. Nice chap and not his fault so won't name and shame.
After you're on V 3.0546.2.3 or later, then there is talk of getting stability by minimising the number of POI to warn against (so not speed zones speed camera database) and turning off display of all POI. |

I had my Orange N70 flashed from v2.0537.1.7 to the latest Generic Nokia 3.0546.2.3
This has certainly improved the BT connection to the GPS, although not completely resolved it. I went to a Nokia service centre ( not that crap outfit Carphone Warehouse) and spoke to the engineer who did it. He really knew his stuff and was really helpful. He has not heard of a version 5 software and said if it were true, what happened to version 4. Fair point! |

It is quite common for international products to not have a version 4 released due to oriental superstition. The number 4 is associated with death and said to be unlucky. A bit like 13 in the west. _________________ Kam |

If that's the case, why is there a version 4 for the 6680 and other Nokia models? |

I have been reading these posts for a while. Decided to buy an N70 anyway.. what a wrong move it was! I have a Fortuna Clip-On GPS unit which works perfect on my 02 XDA PDA...
...but im getting the same "No GPS device" message and TomTom just freezes!.. and i have to restart the phone - this sometimes means taking the battery out!
so can someone confirm if:
1) Selecting the "Hide POI" prevent these crashes?
2) and also, is anyone here on Orange but have a higher version of firmware than v2?
All i can say is... aargggghh!!

You need to read further back in the posts where your question has been answered many times. However, I am on Orange and was on v 2.0537.1.7 which is their firmware. It's awful. Apart from all the issues outlined, the menu's and home screen are crap. I got it flashed to the latest Nokia generic v3.0546.2.3 and although not perfect, it's loads better. Much quicker through the vastly improved menu.s, much more stable with TT and loads better to use. I also sold my BT-77 and bought the official TT gps which works almost perfectly. |

I only found out about the reason for sometimes skipping version 4 when I became curious as to why Psion skipped from Series 3 to 5. _________________ Kam |

I have a N70 and just got a new version installed on my N70:
V 5.0609.2.0.1
01-03-06
AM-84
Even with this version the gps device still dropped out now and again for 2 to 4 seconds at a time. This only happens now and again so you can easily use the N70 with TomTom with this version.
ON A BETTER NOTE FOR ALL:
I have since bought a TomTom MKII gps receiver and it is brilliant. I have done around 8 trips of a few miles each so far and the N70 has not showed "no gps device" at all.
I am doing a long trip on Monday and normally the N70 will lose the gps device at least 6 times. I now suspect that it will not lose it at all.
This dramatic performance increase could be the relationship between version 5 on the N70 and the TomTom gps receiver but i suspect it will work with version 3.
DOES ANYONE HAVE AN N70 WITH A TOMTOM GPS RECEIVER ? |
