Posted: Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:36 pm Post subject: The February Speed Camera Database (4.024) has been released |
|
|
The PocketGPSWorld Speed Camera Database has been updated and contains lots of new cameras. We have made some big changes this month both to our internal systems and the delivery of the database.
New this month: This release has been prepared from the new speed camera database system and all of the camera IDs are now unique across all camera types. As a consequence all of the camera identification numbers have changed. We have also changed the peresentation of the database making it a lot easier to download based on your SatNav system and the available files. This will also make it easier for us to create new download packages in the future. Later in the month we will be adding a ViaMichelin download. This will be announced on the front page.
We have also added a new camera submission page which allows you to submit either an OV2 file or individual camera locations. Click here for the new speed camera submission page.
This month we have 8005 cameras in the database, with 185 additions and 419 changes.
The distribution of the database has been centralised into the Speed Camera section of the site. All the existing spped camera pages should forward to this location.
A beginner's guide to the database can be found here, some instructions for TomTom Go systems are here and for TomTom Navigator 5 here.
Dont forget our camera capture application: POICapture this works on TomTom GO and TomTom Navigator. Click here for more details.
Important:
Please note that this version of the database is only available to subscribed members.
From February 2006 the database will only be available to subscribing members of PocketGPSWorld.com. Click here for PocketGPSWorld.com Subscription details. Please watch for further announcements on the homepage or sign up to our occasional newsletter alerts which carry full details of future database releases. The newsletter signup box is located on the top left of all site pages. Your privacy is important to us, we do not sell on your email details. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I didn't receive an e-mail from you even though I had sent in a removed camera location last May. When I try to send an e-mail with proof that I sent it to the address you have given, it just bounces back. Have you enabled the dataalreadysubmitted@pocketgpsworld.com address yet?
If so can you check it as it's certainly not working.
Steve. |

All the three types of download for Tom Tom have the same zip file name, so unless one changes the file name on save they will overwrite each other.
I like to download all 3 types so get three warnings - in future can you give the zip fies different names so they do not overwrite without having to change the name on save.
Thankss |

I've already mentioned that HERE
Was hoping it would become one place to comment on the new system. |

Hopefully it will, I've stickied it and will re-direct any other posts on the subject to that thread. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
can you please clarify this for me:
It was "said" that after the deadline any upload of new camera would have a free month membership.
Now I read on the "new" camera page:
Free lifetime subscription if you report just one previously unreported, deleted or altered static speed camera position. (Must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.)
I know is in black and white but can you comfirm it?
If one upload a camera, how long will it be to know if one is eligible for the membership?
Thank you |

That's correct, we changed our policy which we feel gives a worthwhile incentive. Any submission will require verification but this shouldn't be too long, I cannot say exactly as yet. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It would be nice if the subscription page was active, there are no "Buttons" to press to let you access any of the 4 options. It also quotes PayPal at the top but then says not yet avaiable, do you want people to subscribe or not? |

The Nochex buttons are working, but you must be a registered user and logged on before they are active. If you are logged in and you are not seeing the nochex buttons please do a hard refresh of the page. _________________ Mike Barrett |
