Hi I have a Mio A201 with MiomapV2

CPU Intel PXA270 312 MHz "Bulverde"
Memory 64 MB Nand (Msystem) ROM
64 MB SDRAM
Operating System: Microsoft Windows®5.0 "Magneto"
GPS Module SiRFstar III

I am going to buy a new sd card for it but notice there are a number of different read/write card speeds, slower (cheaper) ones at around 9Mb/sec and more expensive ones upto about 20Mb/sec speeds.
.
My point is this, I want to get a card that will not slow down the pda in any of its uses, but I don't want to get a sd card which is way in excess of the speed that the rest of the pda can operate at.
Is it worth spending more to get a fast read/write speed, or will a slower one be all that the pda can handle in any case. Thanks Confused

get as fast as you can afford. It will still depend on the SD card driver that is implemented in the OS, but generally the PDA is much faster than the SD card.

Thanks Lutz, if cards were available at such speeds, what kind of transfer speeds would match the processor (hypothetically!) have you any idea?

Regards

Hmm. It might be all the PDA can handle, but if you have a 1 or 2 Gig card then you won't want to be filling it with maps or MP3s using your PDA and Active Sync (unless you are a masochist).

You will want a card reader for your PC and the PC should hopefully be able to make use of the higher speeds...

I'm shopping for a fast SD card at the moment, anyone got advice?

Having read this post I decided to invetsigate.
I found on the Mio site it states, with reference to the 168,
Quote:
The internal SD-card bus can handle speeds up to 20Mbps. This is equal to 133X card speed. However, it is recomended to test before you buy.
I decided on a Kingston 512MB SD Ultimate x133, at £37.34 from Choice Stationary, on which I can easily fit my GB maps + Post Codes and the France plus maps. Perfect match it appears.
