I have had my Quest for about tweve months now and the surface of the screen is showing signs of wear and tear - small scratches and other artifacts. It has been stored in a small soft camera bag when not in use, so the amount of damage to the surface is surprising.
Other than wiping gently with a soft cloth the surface has not been touched.
I wonder if anyone else has come across this problem, or tried any other means of screen cleaning?
Regards to all,

Yeah, all the anti-reflective coating is scratching off my screen too. It looks quite a mess when you look at the reflection in a certain light. Others say the same thing, I think it's a design fault. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I thought I had the same problem but following a recommendation I used lens cleaning fluid on the screen - well it took it back as new!!! My Quest is only used outside (on a motor bike) so if there had been a problem I would have thought it would have occurred in mine. Worth a try to see what happens. |

I phoned the Garmin Customer Supert line, and it was suggested that I return the Quest to the Service department. This I have now done, so I will keep you all informed.
It does appear to be a common problem.

Have a look at this thread - it sounds like the same thing

Twas I who started that thread and I stand by the advice I was given.
My screen looked real bad in some lights but a good rub with white spirit and it came up a treat. |

Did the White Spirit treatment remove the Anti-Glare coating completely?

sorry....been away, yes I think so. The blue tint that you can catch in light sometimes has gone. However, its performance in the sunlight seems the same. |

If you are concerned about using white spirit, why not use camera lens cleaning fluid as I did. The results were superb - The Quest had travelled over 5,000 miles on a motorbike prior to cleaning and the screen definately needed attention - it now appears as new with no apparent deteriation in performance |

My Quest has just been returned from Garmin with a replacement front case, at no chardge. (Just about ten days overall)
This is obviously a common problem but Garmin offered no advice on how to treat the screen. I think next time it will be the lens cleaning/white spirit option. However, I am very happy with their support service.
My thanks to all,

I use glasses cleaner from an opticians and a glasses cloth.
My screen was in a bad way and I assumed I had scratched it using it for motorcycling and walking plus dumping it in my pocket without the case.
Having read the original thread on this I tried and my first attempt didn't do it, nor did washing it under the tap with fairy liquid (it felt wrong even though it is waterproof) but a second more forceful attempt with the cleaner and cloth (I thought what the heck it's wrecked anyway) brought amazing results.
Mine still has the blue anti-glare tint but came up like knew having used some elbow grease. It appears these things really are as robust as Garmin claim.
I'm happy with a top-grade GPS again |
