foxyuk,
Personally I use 400 metres for all fixed cameras, and up to 1000 metres for mobile sites (e.g. 50, 60, an 70 mph).

I use 500 meters for all ,problem is with that kind of distance u tend to be alerted to cameras that are not on route, but close enough to be within 500 meters.... |

since lasers only work at up to 650 meters i suggest something that you can work with. See the Home Office specs if you don't think this is correct. |

Now I'm wondeirng at what distance you should get you tt1 to alert you to such things
Also where are these alternative bmps o be found.
I sused out the tt1 since having it been a few days now about to get on to the safety cameras bit just about to give the instructions a read.
Bit of a novice question I guess but what is a red light warning? |

It's a camera set up at Traffic Lights to check if you cross the line when the lights are red. _________________ Richard

They are in the download package (in the "alternative bmp files" folder, strangely enough! )
I use the "Pearce" ones (for some reason! ) which are red circles with the speed inside, like speed limit signs, but there are an ever growing number of others to try too. |

I'm using the the sub-categorised files now (30/40/50 etc...).
At the lower speeds, I tend to use a lower distance so @ 30mph (100yds for speed, 50 for red-light).
I use 50yds for Specs (plenty of time to slow-down if need be).
Higher speeds get higher distances - 70 being the max @ 300 yds. |

The garmin i3 apparently gives u extra warnings if you're travelling above the speed limit as you approach a camera. This is also an option on the PDA tomtom setup's.
Is there, or is there likely to be in the future, software to detect your speed and give extra warnings when approaching safety camera's on the TT1??
cheers |

Hi jackboy,
to the forum!

There is no option to do this in the standard TomTom Navigator for PocketPC, however there are certain third-party add-on applications (e.g. CheckPOInt 5.0.2), which can be configured to warn only if your speed is over a certain threshold for each category of speed camera.

The SatNav application already knows your speed (as does your vehicles speedometer ;)). The PocketGPSWorld camera database can warn you of the known speed limit for the camera (if you use the speed-zoned database).
If you are looking for the ability to configure the TomTom One to only warn you if you are exceeding the speed limit then it is not possible yet. I don’t think that the TomTom One software supports TomTom SDK therefore no third-party add-on application will be written that can perform as a camera detector.
Whether anything like that will appear in the future, well we don't know. It would be nice to think so but you'd best ask TomTom that question!
For more information on the PocketGPSWorld camera database and loading it onto TomTom products, there are some guides that should be read (in the following order):
The beginner’s guide to the PocketGPSWorld camera database.
This explains about the different camera types and about categories and subcategories, so that you can decide how you want the database on your unit.
Depending on whether you have TomTom Navigator on a Pocket PC or TomTom GO, please read either:
How to install (camera database) POIs to TomTom Navigator 5.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto a Pocket PC running TomTom Navigator 5.
How to install (camera database) POIs onto a TomTom GO, Rider, or One.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto your TomTom GO, Rider, or One.
The above guides may look lengthy and complicated when first seen. However if you grab a cup of coffee and read each one thoroughly then they should make sense as they have been written in a step-by-step way, for ease of reading.

But if you were a person who drives everywhere at 70mph, you would need longer warning distances for 30 mph cameras reducing to no warning at all for 70 mph. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)
