is the only way to look for streets by putting the town/village in first ?
no way to input the street name at the start then choose what street you want (like how it would appear in the index of a map) ?
eg
King Street Paisley
King Street Motherwell
King Street Cumbernauld
if you know what i mean.. |

Even worse than this, I cannot even do what you appear to be doing.
I entered a town name, then was asked the house number. WHAT??!? A house number does not help in a whole town. The next entry should surely be the street name? If someone tells me they live in Burton Avenue, Edinburgh - there is no way to enter this! I have to have a crosssection of two streets so I can use "intersection" search. |

it's not ideal , is it ..... but I dont think you need to do that thing with the intersection
i read somewhere on here to put a 0 for the house number, then the town and it'll list all the streets in that town...at least I think that's them all
maybe by putting 0 in as a number doesnt let it list all the streets or something
going to test it more this week |

THANKYOU! I was too stupid to go any further - it seems a little illogical to me to enter country, town, house number, street - they aren't in size order. I hadn't realised after entering the number you then got asked the street.
I'm having to find everything out for myself - I bought a "B Grade" i3 from Maplin (only £10 off) - it came with no CD, and only a very basic getting started guide - I get the feeling I'm missing something.
I tried to download some map software from garmin, but it won't install - says I have to purchase it. Perhaps I should have a CD with the unit? I'll have to try a pirate copy I think.... |

I've seen that so I always put in house number 1! |

You are not missing anything, did not come with a cd even though it said so on box, garmin will send you one free of charge (cd only contained usb driver & you can download this from their web site anyway)), & the basic instruction manual is correct also. Again you can download the larger version from their web site but it's not that much better. |

I saw in another thread about "Garmin Mapsource" - I take it this is an extra you pay them for? The guy said it was free, but Garmin site says it isn't. |

You can download the latest Mapsource for free, but you need to own a previous mapsource to use the update. |

£190 I paid for this thing. I thought it was only Magellan that ripped people off. BAH! |

heres my reply from garmin and what i sent to them....took 7 mins for a reply...cant believe i had to wait so long... tomtom had a question from me over 3 months ago..still no reply
Question
Problem:
can you do a sfotware upgrade where when searching for an address you get
the options as follows
country, town, road, house number
not as it is currently
country, town, number road....
seems very odd and is annoying to use as well..
is there a software version coming out with uk terms rather than american
terms....
ie. transit, auto rental...etc....these terms to new users will put them off
and may make them want to use another system...ie tomtom that has much more
user friendly user interface
Answer
Dear Mick
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
You cannot change the format of entering an address on the StreetPilot i3.
The highest complement a customer can give a company is to be concerned
enough to offer suggestions for improvement of a product. We appreciate you
comments & opinions regarding our products.
I have forwarded your email to the design team as they are always interested
on customer feedback. Many of the comments/suggestions we receive (such as
yours) are often evaluated towards potential implementation into future
GARMIN products or current unit software releases. We cannot guarantee that
what you have suggested will occur, however we do appreciate you passing
along your opinions.
Regards,
Andy Phillips

I just upgraded to firmware 2.70 to resolve this (someone said in another thread it would - I may be mistaken maybe it was to fix something else), but I still get country, town, number, street. |
