I have used the i3 throughout today (for Work) driving around west london. Latest update (2.4) I went to 12 seperate destinations 65 miles total
At the same time i had my tom tom 5 pda setup running
Half way through the day i did not bother with the tom tom setup and packed it away (pda, power lead, BT Gps, vent cradle) and just used the i3 (i3, suction mount, int battery
Much less clutter with superb directions, mapping and camera warnings
And not a single crash !
for me so far tomtom out i3 in

Hi
I bought the i3 unit a couple of weeks ago but haven't really trusted it as it's crashed on me quite a lot so far. I've found the update they've released and spoken to one of their technical folk, who has given me instructions on how to update my unit.
However, he said I firstly needed to download some USB drivers before I installed the software. He said these would be in the same section on the Garmin website, but the only download files I can see there are the software update and another program enhancement.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the USB drivers for this unit?
Thanks |

you could use the mapsource software on the garmin site or better go to the maplin site select 'i3' and download 'poi' software |

So the POI software contains the necessary drivers?
Thanks |

Has anyone had any luck with backing up the Transflash card. I was thinking of getting a Transflash reader but there doesn't seem much point unless you can make a useable backup card. |

I asked Garmin to clarify situation re: City Select & Transflash cards. Their response is specific and consistent todate:
Quote: | Hello Gary,
The city select v7 Cd will work with the i3.
You will need to purchase a automotive kit for one of our handheld GPS units which has the city slect bundled with it. Though you will get a dash mount and cigerette adapter which will be of no useto you. You can not buy city select europe as a stand alone product.
The best price one is the kit for the GPSMAP 276c.
Part number 010-10510-01
The following link is to a dealer selling online.

Thank you.
If you have any further questions please let me know.

So, its a case of how deep are your pockets City Select CD Vs individual Transflash cards.....
Also, since upgrade NO hangs in 5 days usage. Great product for price. |

Bought one of these yesterday for my car and downloaded the latest firmware along with POI software and speed camera files.
Spent most of the afternoon roadtesting it and did 4 journeys to places unfamiliar to me.
I can state I found the device excellent with the following comments
- Unit is small but screen display is very clear and easy to follow
- Voice directions plenty loud enough and come at the right times for you to follow
- I found the device 100% at keeping its satellite lock
- Unit recalculates route in around 20 seconds when a wrong turn was made to test the feature
- it gave audible ample warning times for speed cameras
- the price is unbelievable at £199.99!
The device 'only' has a 128MB data card included which is preloaded with full coverage of the UK and also has the North Coast Of France via CitySelect Europe V7. There are data cards of up to 512MB currently available also to enable larger coverage of Europe to be stored.
I'm not sure as to using it on a bike as its not waterproof and there is no socket to plug into for the audio commands but I did not buy it for this purpose anyway.
For a UK based car system its totally unbeatable for the price as it worked exactly as I wanted it to.
Definately recommended but do update the firmware as mine came with version 2.3 which apparently is prone to lock ups (I didn't try it though) The latest version is version 2.4 which can be downloaded from www.garmin.com |

Hello - a newbie here - and a complete numpty when it comes to anything technical!
The PC World website says that the i3 is compatible with Windows 2000 and XP. The Technical staff at Garmin say 'it's compatible with Windows!' Can anyone tell me if my five year old PC running Windows ME will be OK for the various tasks associated with downloading updates, transferring data to the i3 etc?
Also, is it possible to program the i3 to follow routes on motorways and main roads only - I tow a caravan!
Many thanks,
AL |
