Unfortunately you can't. You need a true serial mouse with PDA connector to connect it to a PDA. The iPAQ does not have a USB host facility.

What if I buy a carloader no wire on but just with a usb plug-in connection on it's end (seen them on ebay) and a seperate PDA hot-sync cable..plus a usb mini hub.

I could plug the USB mini-hub in the carloader and plug in both the hot-sync cable(usb) and the Gps (usb)

I think in that case both would get the correct voltage...only wondering about the communication between the gps and the PDA

Any idea if that works?

Afraid not. It's not to do with the connection, but the physical support for Serial devices within the device itself. The 1910 would then have to include USB host support direct, which it doesn't. It's a shame, the 1910's are nice and small and great looking.

USB host capabilities are rare on Pocket PCs. On current models, I believe USB host capabilities are limited to some Toshibas. Even if you have USB host capabilities, you need Pocket PC drivers for the USB peripheral you wish to connect.

The best option is to buy a serial USB mouse with the right connection to your Pocket PC. That will have the advantage of providing in car power for your Pocket PC as well, so you won't need to buy a separate in-car power supply for your Pocket PC.

Yes it has a USB port.

But like almost all PDAs, it is a CLIENT, not HOST.

For 2 USB devices to talk to each other, one must be host and the other client.

PDA is CLIENT, PC is HOST, so they can communicate.

All USB peripherals, like GPS, are CLIENTS. So it can only connect to a HOST.

Physical connection (male/female) has nothing to do with it.

Some PDA specifications do indicate a CLIENT, but most do not even mention it and I think it is acceptable as most users would be confused if it is not explained in the specifications.

Thanks all for your solutions/ explanations!

I also mailed the manufacturer of the bu303 who gave me the adress of a firm named Navishop over here in Holland.

The owner offered to trade in the bu303 and send me the br305 with connecting cables(have to add some$50)

Interface BR-305:RS232 interface with PSII connector .

I am on the edge of accepting this offer as I think this will solve all the problems....
