Hello People

I am having difficulty choosing between the Navman iCN635 and a TomTomGO 500. Any recommendations on the one I should go for. This would be my first GPS unit and my main use would be for taxi driving.

Below are advantages and disadvantages between the two.

Advantages - Navman iCN635

- 3.8" Screen
- Non-touch screen (vibrant colours)
- Supplied remote
- Intel PXA255 with X-scale? (can somebody tell me what this means)
- Internal Mem: 64mb
- Active POI
- Mains AC Adapter
- 2D+3D mapping
- Better than TomTomGO mapping layout (my opinion)
- Large button keyboard

Disadvantages

- Big
- No internal battery
- Non-integrated GPS receiver
- Limited POI (25, I think)
- 5-digit Postcode navigation
- Released November 2004 (I think)

Advantages - TomTomGO 500

- 3.5" screen
- touch screen (less vibrant colours)
- 400mhz ARM920T processor
- Customisable POI
- 2D+3D mapping
- small
- Internal battery
- Integrated GPS receiver
- Built-in Bluetooth receiver
- TomTomPLUS (Download weather, traffic reports, safety cameras, detailed city maps, POIs, colour schemes, map updates and extra voices)
- 7-digit Postcode navigation
- Assisted Satellite Navigation (ASN)
- Hands-free phone capability
- Released June/July 2005

Disadvantages

- Non-supplied remote (optional extra at cost (included in TomTomGO 700))
- Internal mem: 32RAM (TomTomGO 700 - 64RAM)
- No mains AC adapter (included in TomTomGO 700)

As I finished typing this I made up my mind and will be going for the TomTomGO.....................are you ready?.....................700.

If I have missed any advantages/disadvantages, please feel free to include them.

Regards

Pan-Air

Hi Pan Air,

Just a couple of things I have noticed with my bosses Tom Tom and my iCN630.

However, bear in mind this was in a Astra Van - so may be different in a car!

1. Tom Tom vibrated alot on the bracket.
2. Sound quality not as good - (TT was on 100% output)
3. Handsfree phone bit worked - but again quality wasn't good. Not as good as my CW-7W by a long way. Mostly it seemed to be a problem for the other end.
4. I did like the quick navigation on the TT.
5. Overall I prefer mine!
