Destinator Win98 compatibility

This might be of interest.
I had severe problems getting the cutting part of the console to work. After four reminders I got the following answer from support:

We have tested the problem, and we do see problems with W98 compatibility. We are trying to find a solution, however at this point we recommend using W2000 or XP computer for instsalltion.

I was very happy to find Destinator bundled with a GPS at a reasonable
price, and had no problems installing it, but my mood soon was swinging to a
bottom zero.
I have a problem that is so severe that I consider returning the whole
package to the reseller!
They, of course, and as usual, have NEVER EVER heard of anyone else in the
whole world having a similar problem.
I intend to use the software in my taxi cab, and I tell you that it is not a
good thing having to tell customers and colleagues to avoid your software,
that apart from this seems to be working fine.
Since I have to be able to find adresses fast, and not having to deal with
cities and streets way out of my normal area of working, I need to cut some
customized maps, but here is what happens:
I can´t get the the cutting tool to work on either of my two laptops,
different brands, running Win98 SE.
When I try to start it either an error message comes up (the usual windows
critical one) and the program has to be ended, or in some instances when it
actually starts, the image of the selected map is totally garbled whith for
instance the little compass rose repeated 20 or more times on the top of the
screen (the lines for preselected areas shows ok though).
Have you heard of this before?
I have tha same error occurring on two different computers running totally
different hardware, but with the same version of Win98.
What information do you need to help me solve this VERY annoying problem?
Do I have some incompatible DLL or do I need to upgrade something?
