TomTom announced this morning that they have been selected by Volvo cars to be their global provider of map data, navigation and traffic services.
Starting in 2019, navigation for all Volvo models on their Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platforms will be powered by TomTom. This agreement is the first time Volvo and TomTom have collaborated and the agreement will also provide for the delivery of real-time incremental map updates to TomTom equipped Volvo cars.
"we are extremely pleased to announce the collaboration between TomTom and Volvo cars, one of the most respected brands in the world," said Antoine Saucier, Managing Director TomTom Automotive.

This is a positive step forward because far too many car manufacturers seem to think they know how to integrate their own version of Satnav into their cars, when in reality there are only two satnav manufacturers (that I have seen) who can "do it."
*****
My Renault Zoe has TomTom Satnav in it but Renault saw fit to "play with it, removing much of the TomTom ease of use and my satisfaction with the end result.
My Citroen Satnav is BRILLIANT - so long as I only use it to see where I am. Programming it is a nightmare, and I have heard the same from many other users of European car satnav systems.

Congratulations and Good luck Volvo. BUT DON'T MESS WITH THE TOMTOM PRODUCT. _________________ IPAQ H2210 1993.... GO LIVE 1005 Europe 2011, 1005 Camper 2015, 5200 WFi 2016 and TT still can't get metric speed limit info right in the UK. 70mph is NOT 115kmh. It is 113 as my old IPAQ knew so well! |

You're right. Don't mess with the TomTom. Use iGO instead. Far more flexible, if only the cheap Chinese jobbies had traffic. |

Honda have ditched Alpine, which is a good reliable system , and the latest Hondas have a Garmin integrated job which is locked down solid.
No cameras, no user POI's, can't change the vehicle icon or voice. Early reports are not good with users posting they are often not tracking the road but are travelling through adjacent fields.
The main issue however seems to be that the Honda Connect unit randomly reboots which takes about 5 minutee to complete. During that time you have no Nav and no radio.
There have been a series of firmware updates but that means having to go back to the dealer every time and there have been quite a few to try and sort out the string of issues. _________________ DashCam:

The earlier Renault satnav (Carminat) was a TomTom, pure and simple, with SD card and connection by the card and TT Home. The only real gripe I had with it was that TT Home did not feature "Operate my Carminat".
The latest ones are simply a nightmare and TT have them in quite a lot of different makes of vehicles. None of them seem to be reported as any good. _________________ Dennis
