I currently use a Zumo 550. Have seen the new Tomtom Rider satnav and it looks very good.
However, I have one major concerned based on previous experience of Rider 1 and 2.
Having plotted a route on my laptop and then transferred it to the Rider 1 or 2., I would set off, only to discover the waypoint/viapoint is not showing to be exactly on the road I am on but possibly off to the side in the grass, when it appears on the satnav screen.
This then means you had to go back to the point that the Tomtom wanted you to pass before it would allow you to move onto the next point. This has caused all sorts of problems, especially if I have been leading a group ride.
With the zumo 550, if you missed a via point it would just recalculate to the next one.
My other major problem was it would not stay locked onto the charging unit on the bike, as the securing clamp was average at best, so would keep switching itself off and on whilst out on a ride.
It was for these two reasons, I stopped using the Tomtom and went over to Garmin.
I like the look of the new Rider, particularly the option for it to calculate the twisty route for you automatically, but if they still have the same problems, it leaves me unsure.
Has anyone bought the latest Rider, and what problems have you found with it, particularly in reference to my points mentioned earlier?
If there are no major issues, I think I will go back to TomTom |
