|
|
My Tomtom GO 950 Live is little more than a piece of useless junk as most times it freezes when I switch it on. It gets as far as the screen showing TOPMTOM and the red hands and then freezes. It cannot be switched off. If I connect it to the computer via TT Home 2.7 it switches on OK, updates OK and can be operated OK
I have reported this to TT and I have been shown how to fully back-up the software and maps, reformat the memory, check drive for errors, reinstall the maps on sd card and then use TT Home to reinstall the software.
It will then work OK several times but after not many operations it go back to its infuriating freezing.
I have added this information as a introduction and I am NOT ASKING here for help with this problem. I have another post in the Tomtom section.
As this device is totally unreliable I have decided to go for another make and it's with the choice of an alternative that i am seeking help.
The good points of the GO 950 are.
Clear instructions when on the move.
Traffic information
Intelligent routing
Destination by POI, full post code and GPS coords
Itinerary planning
Ease of use
Easy to use and install POIs
Maps for UK, EU and USA.
What make and model should I get as a replacement for my useless GO950 giving me as many as possible from the list above?
Are there any web [ages offering comparisons between similar models? _________________ David

David, I would try loading everything to the MicroSD card and wipe the built in memory then try running the 950, from what you describe it sounds like the internal flash memory is on the way out - Mike |

I think we can provide better advice than PCMag.
As Mike suggests, if you're willing to try, running it from a memory card may well resolve the issues you describe and it won't cost much to try as a memory card will only cost a few quid. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Maybe this site can, but it obviously hadn't up to my post, hence my link by way of an alternative.
As for your advice Darren, which is good, I did this on my TT one V 4, it ran fine for a while then had the same symptoms as djchapple, so I went back to the internal memory, which didn't have any probs, I've not since had a chance to repeat the process, so not sure if was just a dodgy SD card, so I'd add that he should make more than one copy and keep it with the GPS in case of card failure, belt and braces innit.
BTW, I was using the SD so I could run the same POIs on both of my TT one V4s.

Actually, there hadn't been any advice in this thread up to now because the OP had specifically said he didn't want any! He started a different topic for advice on the TomTom.....

That topic had a satisfactory outcome |
