Once you've setup the speed camera info and configured your tomtom, does it save the settings anywhere.
The reason I ask is on a regular basis my XL doesn't switch on unless I do a reset. I then have to re-enter all the distance notifications and other settings.
If I knew where the settings were saved I could just restore them instead of having to re-enter the data all the time. |

Hi and welcome.
The mapsettings.cfg file is the one you want. Usually in the map folder. |

And because your resets obviously are destroying it (new one is created if it gets deleted), you need a backup copy on your PC - replace it regularly if you want latest setting always available.
Have you given your device a treatment of ClearFlash? (actually, you run it at least three times). _________________ Dennis

thanks for the info
I haven't used the clearflash tool, as can't remember where my original code is for my maps.
Would I still need this if my unit is nearly 2 year old and I subscribe to the map updates from tom tom

Clearflash is a thing which sometimes does you good. It does no harm at any rate and has no effect on your maps, codes, updates or anything. It clears out residual gunk from the flash memory which sometimes clogs performance and generally disappoints you!
So download it and give it a try - at least three times, you simply double click the exe file to run it with your device connected to the computer. It is one of the most uninformative programs I have ever seen, because it simply says it's installing, then nothing until it finishes. Run it again and again and it sometimes says it hasn't installed properly, just run it again. Awful appearance, but it often works minor wonders and clears up mysterious behaviour - misbehaviour - that's almost a pun!! _________________ Dennis

Or "somewhere else" on your TomTom itself, your mobile phone memory, a USB stick or whatever. Then you can replace it if you are away from home and cannot access your PC.
I keep a copy of mine on the TomTom itself, not in any folder - seems to survive there unscathed! |
