Hi. Looking at buying a satnav for HGV. I deliver to Bargain Booze shops, which are here there and everywhere. CONSTANTLY been taken down silly shortcuts and stoopid lanes.
I currently use the old TOMTOM. One of the 1st made i think. Had all the updates, but not the maps (only found out last week that i could update maps for free).
I have contacted TOMTOM via email on numerous occasions asking if/when they were going to release a product for hgv's, as i have recently heard a rumour that they are due to do it this year. I have received no reply at all.
I have read through the forum, and others too, and the same two names keep cropping up. PRONAV and SNOOPER
We have been promised a review on the PRONAV. Where is it please?
Would it be possible to do a comparison on the two??
I have seen the pronav at £199 and the snooper at £265(direct).
My job doesnt pay much more than this in a week, so my purchase must be a solid one, otherwise the pan my wife hits me round the noggin with WOULD be. Thanks for all previous info, but i'm still non the wiser.
Thanks again.

Which could well be half the issue!

You can't. If you buy a new device you now get ONE free map update IF a later map is released with 30 days of purcahse, otherwise you pay for map updates.

I'm working on the review right now and it should be available by Wed of next week.

Not currently as we have not been able to secure a review unit from Snooper but I'll keep trying.
We will be offering a Pronav as a competition prize in a few weeks. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thats what i thought about the updates for the old TOMTOM. Not actually looked into it, but you just saved me a lot of effort, thankyou.
A workmate has just had the snooper delivered today, so will try to grab some info on it from him. Will keep you posted.
I will look forward to next wed then. And even more to the comp.
Thanks for the speedy reply.

Hi again.
Had a little feedback on Snooper for hgv.
He aint a man of many words, but he said in the 7 days he has used it, it was very good. It informed him of an accident on the M6 so he clicked on the divert accident button and it took him on a suitable alternative route.
He hasn't been down any silly little roads with it, and he said he tested it out heading for silly roads he actually knows, and it diverted him around them.
So up to now all good, but i'm still gonna wait a little longer just to make sure.
Still awaiting your review on the other one though guys.
Happy driving

darren should have 2 reveiws to publish one is the pronav the other is a laptop and pocket pc application depending on what you use at the moment the second one is well worth a look if you use a laptop or pocket pc or pda phone at the moment and for full eu coverage it should work out much cheeper than going for a pnd
just thought id use my reply to jog his memory for them
. he is very busy at the moment but hopefully he'll get round to it next week as he previously said _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

What are you, my conscience? It's sat here on top of my printer nagging me every day, not enough hours and a pile of stuff that's overdue _________________ Darren Griffin |

There is no escaping it is there! An update on this. I have been in contact with Navevo to discuss some of he issues raised by our testing.
The good news is that many of the problems are known and some have already been resolved by a major update. I'm now awaiting the update to test.
As this will be free to all owners it makes sense to review the changes and confirm what issues have been resolved.
I'll keep y'all posted. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Were there many issues?
My workmate with the snooper truckmate is going to lend it to me for a few days next week, so will let you know what i reckon to that one.
Of course, it all depends on the routes i am given while i'm using it, but i will use it alongside my prehistoric tomtom go 300.
Apparantly it still WILL take you down streets with "7.5t limit EXCEPT for access" even if access isn't really neccesary, so think that could be improved.
That's all i can tell you atm.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks

Hi again. Long time.
Still no review i see?
I purchased the pronav with the latest software release last week. The last software update was June 18th. I will be returning back to store this weekend. What a load of old tosh.
The GOOD points:
*Its cheap (ish) at £200 compared to snoopers £365.
*It DOES avoid low bridges and MOST (but not all) weight limits.
*You get a lovely little stylus
AND the BAD points:
*Graphics are poor, but what more do you need to be honest.
*Very poor sound quality.
*Very slow at mapping
*Can't recieve audible directions if veiwing route by text.
*veiw route by text sometimes takes up to 3 mins to load.
*Phone calls are impossible whilst on the move(too much background noise for recipitent), (and the speaker breaks up/crackles when on full volume). And you WILL need full volume, it isn't very loud at all unless its full.
*Estimated time of arrival doesn't work. This shows current time. Pronav have insisted this will be fixed on the next quaterly update. The quaterly update, i presumed should have been in sept with the last one been 18th june, but it is now 2nd Oct and still no sign of one.
*Also to be fixed is the mp3 player. If you are using a current version of windows media player, you wont be able to install any music. And if you DO manage to install it you wont get much on. I just managed to fit ONE picture on before running out of space. And then i couldn't even view it.
*Routes are routed at about 70mph (motorway), so after working out your arrival time by looking at how long the trip takes (because it doesn't tell you ETA), you need to add about 10 mins per 40 motorway mile.
*The incab charger is very cheap and nastly, and i can't see that lasting too long.
*If you avoid part of the route, then view by text, it reroutes back to origional route. If you avoid part of route, then avoid another part of route, the first avoided part comes back into use.
I'm sure there is more, but can't think of them at the moment.
But in short, save a little bit more money and go for the more expensive option. I have borrowed the Snooper (eventually) to test out tomorrow so will let you know on that one.
Happy trucking
Cheers
