|
|
I just joined this forum after the excellent and INVALUABLE advice you provide to readers. I decided to get the Halfords Medion Navigator bundle here in Brighton and went down to find the shelf empty. I sort of thought I wouldn't really get any added value service from Halfords. I was SO wrong. I asked the guy when they were getting their next delivery and he said that he thought they did in fact have them in stock. He went to get another guy who came and said that they had just taken delivery of the new model - the Medion MDPPC250 navigator GPS system. He tells me it is exactly the same spec as the original bundle but the PPC is a smaller unit. He had an old unit and showed me the new for comparisom. Then he set up the unit for me (and talked me through how to use the software). All in all very good service. I used it on my way home and picked it up in about 10 minutes. REALLY EASY and works a treat. I would reccomend this to anyone who is interested in a cheap in car GPS option. As has been said this is not a cheap peice of kit. The windscreen holder is one of the best I've seen. The Navigon software seems to work just great, and the PPC synced with my XP system no probs. |

hi glaspole
I wonder if you could tell me how the unit fits in to the car I dont fancy drilling any holes etc in my new Golf hehe.
Also does the unit GPS have to be connected to the GPS aerial which comes as part fo the kit or can it still work without the aerial connected.
Thanks for any help

According to today's edition of Computer Active which gives it 5 stars and a recommendation to buy, it has an "ingenious suction clip, which sticks strongly to a window or dashboard but can be easily removed by the flick of a lever" !
Not certain about your second question but i would guess it has to have the supplied ariel connected, otherwise how does it get its satellite fix?

Thanks Halli useful info. Is that an online review or a magazine?
On the aerial front I was wondering if perhaps it had an internal aerial to lock on to the satellite, I know some units have this feature.
Once again thanx for the info think Im gonna grab me one of these anyhow and if I'm not happy can always use the great 12months no quibble Aldi moneyback guarantee which Vicky on these forums has just used to take back the last old PDA Aldi bargain without any problems.
Great stuff Aldi!! |

The article I referred to was from this weeks mag (not on line yet) but I did find this article form ALDI's earlier special which might help. Please note that thsi weeks offer has only one 256mb card.

The aerial that is supplied with the package is an external variation that is powered off the accessory port on the PocketPC itself. The navigation software has a route planning facility that allows you to plan the journey ahead without the unit being connected up in the car (ie without the GPS facility), but the actual Sat/Nav side of the software requires the GPS aerial to be connected and powered by the car 12V cigarette lighter.
Hope that this is of some help.

5v - I tried this with a camera back-up rechargable pack that has a car socket attached and it works ok - this unit is 12v so I presume the car adaptor drops it to the required voltage as it would do in the car.
I've had the unit for a few years but I presume they still make them - try a camera store Jessops etc?
