Lately I've had a realisation that many of the streets I swear loudly at for not being in the map corrections are Buses Only. Since I discovered this I've rapidly confirmed it to myself. In Glasgow yesterday I went on a wild goose chase to get to the BBC building because of them.

So I'm assuming that these submitted corrections are ignored because they are not closed off - just limited to buses. This in turn means that Tom Tom (and the maps company) must know they are buses only. I can't think of any other reason that they remain 'open' despite being reported over nd over again, even in London.

So wouldn't it be possible to differentiate between vehicles to enable or disable these roads? i.e. if setup asked if you were a bus, taxi or car it could route accordingly by default?

I think I might already know the answer. Perhaps, although the mapping division knows it's a bus road, the costing system for the maps excludes that data. Presumably so the high price for the commercial versions of the maps remain high. Just a theory.

Discuss. :-)

I would have hoped that TomTom would have closed them off as most bus drivers in City Centres are not using TomToms.
