|
|
Selling my TT730T (£145 delivered) and recently upgraded the map to V8.15. If this is bought, can the new owner upgrade the map as I still have over 11 months over updates to come?
And if not, is there a way to transfer the ownership?
Thanks
Doug

Critical question - does map tie in to unit i.e. if whole unit sold to someone else, can they register the unit to them and then take over my map updates on the unit?

I haven't seen an answer to these questions, I think we don't know and the only way to find out is ask TomTom.
Map is linked to device and email address, device is linked to email address, email address is linked to payment for map upgrades. I even remember some long time ago TomTom telling somebody they were not allowed to sell their device!!
I have a feeling that the update service is not transferable - not from you to the new owner AND not from your 730 to your next TT device. Sneaky!! _________________ Dennis

Thanks Dennis. Typical bloody TomTom! This won't be a problem if my potential buyer does have it as she is in my department and I can download the maps for her at my house!
So there, TomTom, put that in your pipe etc etc...........

I seem to remember that if you use a free email provider and then create a different email address for each TT you have, you could pass on that email account and password when you sell your TT.
Just make sure you use a good provider that does not disappear in the night
Someone correct me if i'm wrong. |

HaHa - only joking TomTom. As has been said before, seems a bit unfair. If I buy a car and then put a new engine in it, does that stop me selling it on to someone else? Bad analagy but seems unjust!
Perhaps I will keep it then () after all, TomTom have my £59 tucked away......

You'll have to remember to register your new device (if it's a TomTom) with a DIFFERENT e-mail address, or you won't be able to do that either because your new device will supersede the old one on your TT account. _________________ Andy

Or perhaps "update" Home with the buyer's e-mail address so that they can then continue with the map subscription...
...BUT TomTom only allow one change every 6 months or something don't they
...so, if you have more than one e-mail address at your disposal, it might be easier to update the account for the old device with the buyer's e-mail address and then use a different e-mail address for your new device _________________ Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that. Looking for a change away from TomTom to either Navman or Garmin so there won't be a registering of a new one yet! But will do as you suggest about the email - thanks.

There's only room for one map download subscriber in this village and I wouldn't want to have to pull rank
PS Happy New Year. The lights in my house no longer dim, so you must have turned off your Christmas lights _________________ Andy

Doug | Check with TomTom first that the map subscription will transfer to the new email address. _________________ Dennis
