|
|
Hi,
My i3 has suddenly stopped working on batteries.
I do tend to use it in the car on a usb lead, but I am lending it to a friend for use in a city.
Just went and put fresh batteries in (tried two sets) and it will not boot up. Tried a reset, no difference.
Batteries tested in my Psion OK.
Any ideas please?
TIA |

Presuming you are fitting the batteries the correct way round, then the only other thing to check is if the battery leads inside the i3 are ok.
Think you need a torx T5 or 6 to remove the 4 fixings. BUT, you then need to force open the casing and this WILL mark (damage) it. |

Yes, I am putting them in the correct way, but it is wise to check. :-)
They will just have to live with it for now and use only in the car.
I'll take it apart when they give it back.
Think I might give Garmin a ring tomorrow as well.
Thanks for the reply. |

I think you might have seen This post before, but it does show how to open the i3, and I guess you still have the screwdrivers from last time - Mike |

Thanks Mike,
I do have the screwdrivers from taking apart my other i3, but I'll check the circuit with a meter when I get it back before considering taking this one apart.
It is well looked after so I'm suprised this has happened.

Contacted Garmin, they could not offer any advice.
Repair would be just over £73 and new maps about £50.
It still works fine for now, but when it gives up the ghost it will be cheaper to get a new one.
As I am unemployed at the moment, I do not need it as much as I used to either. :-) |
