Check the properties of "MapSettings.cfg"
Has it got set to read only or some other odd setting?
Sounds like it isn't being read properly, so a new one is being created when it first boots.
You can check the file creation dates to see if that's what is happening |

No funny settings, but the date in the back up is the date I backed it up ???
So not sure what's going on there then. _________________ TTGO730

What MIGHT be happening....
The TomToms have a habit of losing their settings. We've never quite got a handle of exactly what causes it, but it definitely seems to happen more often when you either connect to the PC or connect to Home.
When it happens, a new MapSettings file gets created automatically.
Maybe you've just been unlucky and this is happening just before you make the backup.
Is it repeatable? You might need to try some experiments.
Having said that though.... I don't think Keyboard and Status Bar preferences etc are stored in MapSettings.cfg, so it might be something more global if SEVERAL settings files are going wrong. |

It has only happened twice, both times I reverted back to a back up I made prior to a new App being installed. _________________ TTGO730

Ah, that's not the same as you said in post #1! You said "When I back up using windows explorer.....it never remembers the settings"
If you install new software it's quite likely to reset a lot of stuff. I just
accept that as a fact of life! |

But I would have assumed if I backed up prior to the latest App being installed which was 8.1??? replacing the back up should put everything back as it was, wouldn't it ??? _________________ TTGO730

Agreed....
Also I now realise that some of the things you are saying have reset are NOT in MapSettings.cfg
I've just had the same problem! |
