TomTom have today announced an updated RIDER version which includes TomTom Map Share(tm), the latest map guarantee and a new trip statistics feature.
Other features new to RIDER are the Help Me! menu which includes direct access to emergency services and roadside assistance information.
Existing customers who have previously purchased a RIDER 1st or RIDER 2nd Edition can also benefit from the new software features via an update. This is available free of charge through TomTom HOME. In addition, existing customers who purchase a new Tele Atlas map will also have access to TomTom Map Share(tm). New maps will be available from early May 2008 via TomTom HOME or on-line at www.Tomtom.com.
The enhanced TomTom RIDER 2nd Edition has an RRP of £349.99 (UK/Ireland version) and £399.99 (Europe version) and will be available from UK retailers in early May 2008. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Nice to see they are continuing their "unique" version numbering system, and seem to be referring to this as "The enhanced RIDER 2nd Edition"! |

I'm just pleased to see the poor relation of the TomTom range finally getting a software update.
Now all they've got to do is sort out their diabolical phone compatibility list and I'll be a happy bunny. |

I get an error error on the screen when I try and download the QuickGPSfix. Anyone else have any luck? |

Any one know how to set the trip statistics back to zero on this new Rider version ?
I can set to zero on a new trip, but it keeps a total milage that does not seem to be able to reset, it even adds milage when doing a demo route.
I have done a hard reset mains power/hold in on switch and use reset pin, but totals still remain.
The trip details seem to be stored on the Riders internal memory rather than on the Sd card.
Dont know what else to try |

What on? Surely you don't have one of these new "Riders" yet do you?
Or have you downloaded the v7.540 software for an older one? |

Its a rider2 and yes this is on Version 7.540
AND before anyone asks it does have the words error displayed twice on the screen, with no other words, which could have been more helpful!
This is all done using home 2.3.0.70
Cheers
Philip

THe quickfix thing doesn't work for me either. I also couldn't navigate to a city centre, I just got "wait one moment" prompt that never went away. I rebooted using a paperclip and now I can find city centres but my POIs don't work, get the same prompt but nothing happens. Still it's a decent upgrade when it works. |

Has anyone tried this update on a Rider v1? Think I am running 6.54 or something and don't know if it is worth updating this.
Any comments appreciated. |

There are certainly several new features in v7 software, although some of them require v7 maps too.
I would certainly try it out, you've nothing to lose....
Just make sure you have a full backup first (done with Win Explorer not Home), then you can easily get back to where you started if you don't like it for any reason. |

Yes, I've done it.
Only been for a quick weekend's run around France, but have no issues to report. Nothing earth shattering, but some nice new little features.
I'm looking forward to the v7 maps. |

Thanks for the previous comments.
I have now upgraded my Rider V1 to 7.54 and am so far glad I have. The route selection seems better, it looks good, and the interface is improved but familiar.
Not exhaustively tested but very happy so far. |
