Curses upon you Darren.................

I went out today to record a walk in the Brecon Beacons that is great all year and is even a cycle track (though I have never met a bike on it). About 3/4 of the way around I found evidence (now in the possession of the police) or the local car parks being preyed upon). Then when I got back to my car I found that it had been broken into (something I should not have been surprised about given that I was previously a member of the local Car Park watch). While I cannot blame this on Darren I would urge readers to remember that rural car parks are deemed by some (I was going to say members of the community but thought better of it) to be open access.

Be warned, all I lost was a window and an old jacket you may be less fortunate. Darren is in no way implicated.

At least it was pleasing that Powys Police were with me within 3 minutes of my finding the break in, and that is in an area with no mobile coverage (but that is another story).

I may post the walk in future (as it is a really good one) but sadly readers must beware.

A sad reflection on modern society is what springs to mind with this sort of behaviour by thoughtless idiots. You are left with the hassle of repairs and (possibly) insurance claims, not a good end to nice days walk.

Please do send the files in for the walk though as they will be appreciated, and used by others, the reminder about car security is a good one though, I never leave nav units or anything of value when leaving the car anywhere these days, but even this doesn't stop the idiot smashing a window - Mike

Tough luck LostMike.
Hope the damage to your car was no more than a broken window, the thiefing b****ards. Which part of the Beacons were you walking? I often walk the Western Beacons/Black Mountain area and use the trout farm at the start of the track to Llyn y Fan Fach to park the car, never had a problem yet so I am probably lucky. Did have my car broken into when walking in Hampshire once, stupid me locked my camcorder in the boot and although I couldn't see anyone about I reckon I was clocked. I learnt the hard way and never leave anything of greater value than a packet of Murray Mints in the car now! But I guess that won't stop them from popping a window on the off chance.

Look forward to your route.

It was the Usk Reservoir which should be well known to you. I know the eastern car parks were open season until we started the car park watch, but recently I think the western areas particularly around the waterfalls has been more at risk. But anywhere seems to be "at risk" these days. I made the mistake of leaving a jacket in the car because the weather was better than expected. My mistake, I should have worn it a sweated. That would have merely reduced my weight not my bank balance!

I've split this from the review thread to keep it on topic.
