Hello,
New here and, after searching, cannot find exactly the answers that I require, so sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
Having just bought a 760 with the inbuilt Cyclops camera database, which I really like, I would like to know whether your database covers everything at least as well as the Cyclops and is updated at least as regularly or whether I would lose any detail. In other words do I get more / better info for £19 than I would for £30? |

we update on average, every 2 weeks and our data is more up to date. obviously i am biased but feel free to ask any users! having used both the cyclops (garmin) and pgpsw data i honestly believe ours is better / more accurate.
the only difference is that garmin do not allow 3rd party poi providers to create directional databases so while we have direction data there is no way to use this on the garmin units - the downside to this is you will get warnings for cameras on the other side of the road.
personally i'd rather have these 'false' alerts (not really false, just not relevant) than missing or inaccurate data which is my experiance f the garmin database.
and, like you say, we're cheaper and the single subscription covers any device in your home not just one unit.

Thanks for the quick response MaFt, so, from reading other posts, I just sign-up, download, unzip and use uploader, not forgetting to disable Cyclops.
In practice, is it any better to have POIs on an SD card rather than on the built in memory?
Will I still get warnings chimes if I stray over the speed limit? |

personally i've always used the internal memory. the only time this has caused an issue was when some of the older units were limited to how many poi categories you could use (known as the 257 limit!) so if you used a load of standard poi files too (mcdonalds, morrisons etc) then the unit wouldn't start up. this has been fixed in later firmware versions as well as in the new units (2xx, 7xx)
it's entirely up to you - i'm sure someone will come and give the benefits of using the sd card in a few hours! but i've never used that method so i can't really comment

I have the UK camera database on internal memory and it works fine. I've put the European database on an SD card, as this then allows me to remove the card when crossing into countries that do not allow any form of camera detection.
(Needless to say the card goes back in once I'm over the border!) ;) |
