I've just purchased a Route 66 mini regional sat nav. I've charged it up and inserted the memory card.

I've had it for two days now and it's still stuck on 'detecting GPS'. I've made two journeys with it, both about an hour long, and all the way it's just said 'detecting GPS'.

The first time you use it, do you have to be still in the car for it to locate GPS or is it ok to drive while it's locating?

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Put it in the outdoors and leave it with a clear view of the sky for about 20 minutes it should acquire a position fix this way, subsequent time to acquire your position will be far less.
Never drive off without a position fix as this will complicate the job for the receiver - Mike

OK, I've been trying to get it to work since Friday now. Today it has been in the car for almost an hour and it's still saying 'detecting gps' and not doing anything.

Should I take it back to the shop?

It does sound like the unit is faulty to be honest, it shouldn't take as long as this to locate your position - Mike

I took it back to the shop and the guy just hit the 'reset' button with a pin, it's working fine now!

Damn thing didn't even come with any instructions.
