I am used to doing firmware updates on a lot of my gadgets. Is there also firmware updates available for bluetooth GPS's? I have a Pretec. |

Generally no. There are firmware updates available but only the manufacturers do them, most are trying to minimise returns so they don't let these out to the public but do obviously update newer factory units and also some older stock. |

I have managed to get firmware updates from a number of companies but they really don't like giving them out even to me. Even then I had no instructions, and I usually don't find trouble doing these sort of things, but most of the firmware updaters consist of an executable file, an number of binaries to load and open into the executable and you then connect to the GPS and it will show you in hex the firmware, you then tell it to upload the firmware and it's done. I found I had to flash several GPS's 5 or 6 times before they took a new firmware update, so I guess I can see why they don't want to give them out to the public. |
