I have a new Ipaq 2210 with a fortuna clip on blutooth gps receiver which I have installed TomTom 2 navigator which works ok but I also have memory map installed and there seems to be a conflict with the com ports Tom Tom uses Nmea 0183, com port 8 serial bluetooth and memory map also wants to use the same but when i try to connect to the gps with memory map an error message swaying could not open com port is received, I have uninstalled TomTom and memory map then works fine but as soon as I reinstall TomTom the same problem occurs, can anyone please help me resolve this problem
Thanks

John, the problem is with TomTom. Basically TTN2 had problems on the 2210's and other WM2003 Pocket PC's where if you switched the iPAQ/PPC off when the program was running and you were connected to a Bluetooth GPS, you wouldn't be able to switch the PPC back on again, you would have to do a soft reset.
TomTom created a fix in their GPS driver 2.08 and subsequently GPS 2.09 which basically re-maps the COM port and causes problems as it creates a bridge through port. What you need to do is when you install TomTom Navigator there's usually the following programs installed:-
- TomTom Navigator 2.24
- TomTom GPS
If you have installed the latest version which includes GPS 2.08 or 2.09 then you will also have TomTom ~ GPS. Notice the '~'. Uninstall this option in REMOVE PROGRAMS and it will ask you to soft reset your PPC and this will now let ALL applications use a Bluetooth GPS.
Downsides in doing this ? Basically don't switch the PPC off when you are using the GPS. Make sure you exit TomTom Navigator 2, then switch the Pocket PC off and you'll be fine. |

Hi Dave
Thanks for that, since posting I had also found the answer in the memory map forum, after removing TTN2 gps all works ok but the only problem I seem to have now is after I run memory map and then try to run TTN2 it goes into a big sulk and will only work after a soft reset , I have also emailed TT and they replied saying they will look at the problem at a higher level !!!
Many Thanks
