Antenna (receiver?) advice please

Hi all, new here.
Been using an IPAQ 3870, TT Nav 5 and a Haicom 204s for some time. Few weeks ago, the IPAQ battery went flat, and had to relaod software. Worked a treat for 30 mins, then locked up. I think the Haicom has failed - there is no LED flashing as normal, but definately power to the IPAQ. Fiddled loads (eg checking broken wires etc) with no success.

2 questions - could the software re-loading have caused a problem or is it coincidence?

What is the best cabled antenna now available (don't want to pay much, doesn't have to be waterproof). My existing cable has a round 6 pin (DIN?) connector.
