not really you have to remember that many caravn sites are down narrow lanes one thing you can do is make sure that avoid unpaved roads is checked and use fastest and not shortest route selection other than that use common sense, if you dont think you should be going down the road dont go down it.

the i3 is limited in that you cant drag the map round the screen as you can with other units ie the c5xx and the nuvi range to name a ouple

Basically as a caravanner, do not follow the unit unless you have planned it on the PC with MapSource and the same Garmin software that is within the unit.

It will always help if you set the unit to 'Truck' rather than car!

Remember the unit has NavTech maps, introduced into Garmin software, and loaded into an American programmed unit!
It sees all 'National Speed limit' roads as a main road.
It should never be followed without planning on the PC if you use a caravan.

I have just returned from 4200 miles touring France and Italy with a caravan for 28 days and each day's towing was planned on the computer before transferring to the unit before leaving the UK. You can force the route by putting in vias.

An example of poor Garmin routing:-
Severn Bridge to Dover always takes you through Bracknell rather than junction M4 J4b

Fishguard Ferry Port to Severn Bridge takes you on a scenic route rather than following the main A40[T] to the M4 unless you use 'truck' option.

Sounds obvious, but probably the best bit of advice you will get Wink

Don't forget if the road looks narrow, it will probably get narrower 8O

I totally agree.

But I plan all my caravanning routes prior to leaving, including my petrol stops every 180 miles, and the Peage locations [so that I can wake up my redundant ex-navigator and warn her how many €€s to find!!]

In 5 years of GPS use with a caravan, I have only 'come to grief' twice with my routing.
Once when I forgot I had 'track up' instead of 'North up' on a roundabout in Switzerland, and just outside Lake Garda where I have proved there is a Mapping problem with v9 software!

Do not rely on the unit if you have not planned it on the PC :D
