hi i want to buy a gps for the car which basicaly i can put a route in myself,i want to be able to look at a map ,or auto route etc plan a route then enter it into my sat nav easily rather than the satnav plan the route for me any recomendations or ideas thanks paul ps i am not a gps nut like a lot of you,so i just want a easy quick method

Not the usual way of using road navigation devices. The main problem in doing the routing yourself is that you would need to know all about one-way streets etc in the centre of towns so as to 'know' when to make a turn.

You could possibly do something using a handheld GPS and creating waypoints to assist you in navigation. But you would probably need to use it in conjunction with a map. A waypoint in a town would prompt you to "look for the Axyz to Somewhere" for example.
