Wife's 500 won't power on unless connected t either the car power or its mains charger. Tried hard reset & it still won't play. Anyone got any ideas?

Probably the IC if it doesn't start at all on the battery. |

It's an Integrated Circuit (IC) which supplies 3.8V to the internal circuitry and the battery charger IC :-). For whatever reason the 3/5/700 series is suffering from this fault - half of the IC blows up, but the other half is functioning, so that you can switch the unit on and use on external power, but the blown part of this IC creates a short circuit and prevents the battery from charging properly. In fact your unit is (probably) constantly drawing up to 1.5 Amps from any power supply you connect it to. |

Will cost you around £65ish to replace the IC & battery.

Hopefully this will be under the 2 year warranty, because it's only 15 months old. |
