|
|
Hi all,
I'm really struggling to find out which TomTom devices still have SD cards. My Go720 got stolen while we were on holiday and I'm trying to find a replacement. As well as the UK maps that came on my device, I've purchased other ones and had them installed on the SD card. I want to be able to do the same with the new device.
I'm struggling to find out which TomTom devices still have SD card support. The staff at Curry's in the UK told me that no devices support SD, and the way that the devices are setup in the stores mean that I cannot see the bottom. None of the stores are able to let me see the whole of the device, and no-one will open a box so that I can inspect a unit.
All I want to be able to end up with is a single device that will allow me to add around 3GB in additional maps (Europe and North America) that I am already licensed to use. I don't like moving maps on and off because sometimes I need to travel on short notice and need to have the device fully loaded.
Thanks in advance! |

Surprisingly the Curry's rep was spot on with the advice that no current TomTom devices have SD card slots, some units do offer memory card support but they now use the MicroSD card format which is considerably smaller than an SD card.
All the Go-x50 devices have MicroSD card slots in addition to the built in Flash memory, no other device in the current product range support memory cards - MIke |

If you think that existing maps you've purchased will work by simply copying them from your computer to a sdhc card and then putting them in a unit, then I have bad news for you. Maps, when installed, are locked to a specific device. So, even if you got another (refurbished) 720, the maps would NOT work on them.
If I've misunderstood your intensions, then sorry.
OTOH, the 740 does have a micro sd card slot where you can purchase and store maps. The x50 models also have micro slots. _________________ David |

I'm fully aware of the limitations with activation and device locking. However, TomTom will allow you to move your maps to a new device if you can prove that the old one was stolen. This will not be a problem, as I have been through this a few years ago unfortunately.
The problem I am having is TomTom's sales solution. Because of their returns policies, no-one will open a box to tell me if the device has an SD slot or not, and the TomTom website is unhelpful. |

MicroSD will do me fine - all I was asking for was an expansion slot, and he advised that no device in the range had this any more. If the Go devices hav them, I'll just have to pay the extra for one of those - thanks |

There's a full card slot/model table on this tomtom webpage. |
