Has no one managed to write a RDS/TMC add on for TT3 yet to gain the TMC advantage without having to use the subscription package (and for those without gprs)
It is technically possible? We have other add ins for TT3, this add on would the the killer upgrade (and I suspect is specifically blocked by TT for this reason) |

It would be a pretty cumbersome setup. Either you would need two receivers (one GPS, one TMC) occupying two COM ports on the PDA, or you would need to extract the TMC information from the data that a GNS mouse delivers.
Since there are alternatives (either TomTom Traffic, or Navigon) it's probably not of much interest to anyone.
As a stretch you could write an add-on that would take the (free) TMC information provided by the Route66 servers and feed that into TomTom. But this approach would require GPRS traffic (even though this doesn't require a TomTom Traffic subscription)
Uh, did I mention that TMC is a protected protocol and you have to pay royalties to be able to use it? _________________ Lutz

TT was the first product I used, and hence probably the reason why I prefer it.
Major problem with TT traffic is the use of GPRS, as it is not avaliable with "3"

Still requires GPRS as above.
I still would prefer, say a CF GPS and a "TMC" Charger as just released by GNS . But as I cant get GPRS it looks like Navigon is the way forward (particulcaly the new version 5) |

The TMC charger only works for PDAs that still have a serial port - not very likely with new devices. _________________ Lutz
