Hi all,
Can anyone confirm that I'm not going mad? In version 2 of the map loading software, the maps could be added to an external SD card without having the actual device plugged in to.
V3 seem to have gone backwards and again have to have the iCN plugged in. What a pain. :x _________________ Mark

IIRC, you had to have the device connected to the PC with V2, just as you do with V3. It's to tie the data on the card to the device. _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim,
I beg to differ - I still have V2 Map Installer on my machine and I have just checked and it is possible to load the maps onto a SD card in an external reader. _________________ Mark

Hi Angelfire
Having just looked at my iCN630 V2 Desktop I would confirm what you are saying. There is a setup for PC Removeable Media and if I click onto the Drive selector it lists the 4 removeable drives (F thru I) of my Belkin Card Reader.
Don't know about V3 cos I've not got it.
Regards

Oh and as an afterthought just to convince myself that what I said was correct, I've just sucessfully transfered Ireland onto my SD Card, removed it. then I put it back on again.
And all the time the iCN 630 remained safely tucked away in it's case
As I say, I don't know about V3 but, if what Angelfire says is correct and I don't doubt what he is saying, then to me it's a retrograde step on behalf of Navman
Regards

Hi AlfieB,
The only thing I can think of as to the reason (I've thought of this since my last posting!) is that the maps are now by country - unless you get the lot (As I have) - so to to check to make sure that you are authorised to load the maps onto the SD card it might have to check the iCN itself - but surely that would mean the check is not done when the maps are loaded when the iCN is booted up - so as long as someone has the full license and loads the SD card it will work?
Can't see them being that daft? _________________ Mark

The v3 desktop also has an option for PC Removable Media which lists the card reader in my printer.
When the desktop says it cannot detect the PPC I just click 'cancel' and the desktop loads up.
It will frequently ask to be connected to the device though. _________________ Ian.

Hi Icsys
Tried to cancel - and yes the desktop does load - but trying to put the maps onto the PC Removable media just says the maps aren't registered!
So I think my last post is at least partially true! _________________ Mark
