Hey guys,

I've been watching the forums for a while but this is my first post. I hope you can be of help.

Being a Dutch expat currently living in the USA, I now own a US version iCN 630, which came with full maps of North America. In addition to this, I bought the Navman V2 CD's with pan-European street level maps for my trips to mainland Europe.

I am interested in buying a new iCN 510, because I quite fancy the battery independence that model offers, and the touchscreen.

My question is the following: When I buy the new iCN 510, with V3 software, will I be able to still use the extra V2 maps of Europe that I have bought for my then obsolete iCN 630???? And do I need any special instructions for this, or a special way of installing or re-activating them??

Thanks in advance for your kind help!!

You would have to check with Navman support. I know that Garmin, for instance, allow you to activate Mapsource products for two GPS devices as long as you own them both. If you're in the US, you could ask them from this page.

Haven't got an answer yet from Navman support....

But isn't there anyone on the forum who upgraded from a V2 device to a V3 device and knows whether you can re-use map packs you bought for V2???

Please let me know....

Thanks!

Looking at the information on the Navman Store website, it would appear that 510 maps are for the 510 only and, similarly, 6xx series maps are for 6xx series iCNs only. However, I don't know for sure, so keep plugging away at Navman. Have you tried ringing them on this number?

Toll Free: 1-866-9-NAVMAN (1-866-9-628626)

Oh yes... they replied.... what a well documented reply it is!!!

"We've been advise by our NZ office that this should work (backward
compatible with maps only). Enjoy the 510 and its new features !

Regards,
NAVMAN"

Should I believe this, and go ahead and buy me a 510 now???

I asked Navman support in the UK, and their answer was different. Specifically I asked, and I quote:-

Tim wrote:
"Hi,

Is it possible to activate and use iCN630 V2 maps on an iCN510, please? Also assuming that the 630 maps had already been registered to a 630 unit, would Navman allow de-registering them for that unit and re-registering them for the 510? If so, what is the procedure, please?

Cheers,

Tim

and the reply I got was

Navman Support wrote:
It is not at all possible to install V2 maps onto an iCN510, because there is no way to activate the V2 maps against the iCN510 unit.

So I would say "No, don't buy a 510".

As a last resort, you could try emailing support in NZ direct, ans see if they give you a different answer again. Their email address is support (at) navman.com.

That's a funny way of trying to sell another 510 AND another Map Pack, that Navman adopts here in the US..... Rolling Eyes
