TomTom announced this week the launch of TomTom RoadDNA, a new mapping product intended for use in autonomous driving.

RoadDNA delivers an optimised 2D view of a road, generated from 3D point cloud data which allows software to identify the exact lane so that a vehicle knows where it is on the road network with limited processor and storage requirements on-board.

RoadDNA is built upon TomTom HAD maps, the first of which was released in Germany this week. TomTom's Germany HAD map covers the complete Autobahn network and provides a 3D lane map for 24,000 kilometres of roads including 3D geometry for centerlines, lane dividers, borders and guard rails plus lane dependent speed limit data.
