SPOT Trace an antitheft tracker with global coverage
Article by: Darren Griffin Date: 30 Jan 2014
SPOT Trace is a new product from the company behind the SPOT range of emergency location beacons and satellite phones.
Using the same technology as their other products (SPOT use satellites for the communication channel rather than GSM mobile phone coverage) and GPS for precise location information, you can track the SPOT Trace in realtime wherever it is.
It wills end you an alert if its vibration sensor is triggered or it detects movement and you can configure updates to be sent at intervals between a couple of minutes and an hour. Its compact (5 x 7x 2 cm), and it can be powered from AAA batteries or external power. On battery power the SPOT Trace can run for upto 18 months
If you have a boat, caravan, or any other valuable item that you want to track, wherever it may go, this may be the ideal solution.
European pricing has not yet been released but it is available in the US starting at $99.95 and requires a service plan.

It would be great if all vehicles had this fitted, the scrotes would have to start using the bus to get home, insurance companies would be forced to remove the theft clause, cash transfer vehicles could be properly tracked to prevent robberies, PIs would have an easier time.
There would be downside too, less infidelity for one, speeding fines could then be automatic, as would parking fines, the list is endless.
I wonder if this tech will get copied.

There are retailers in Cramlington and Worcester selling these. The price seems to be set at 179 euros. http://www.findmespot.eu/en/index.php .
There also appears to be an ongoing service charge on top.
