An Australian driver has won his case over a speeding ticket after a battle that took 15 months.

Paul Daniel and his father-in-law was were approaching Melbourne's Wellington Road bridge on their way to an annual fishing trip.

The two were discussing and laughing about reports in the media claiming drivers had been wrongly fined at the bridge.

Mr. Daniel said: "Here comes the Wellington Road bridge, have a look at my speed" His father in law looked at the speedometer and said, "Yep no worries" at which point they both laughed.

Mr. Daniel added: "I was going between 95kmh and 97kmh. Two weeks later I get the fine in the mail." The notice alleged he was travelling at 110kmh on a 100kmh stretch.

He received advice from a barrister friend, as he could not pay a solicitor, and fought the charges himself. He even took it to appeal.

A Judge has now dismissed the charges in the County Court. Mr Daniel said that he believed the judge preferred their evidence over that of a machine.

It will be interesting to see if others who were prosecuted come forward claiming the speed camera was incorrect.

It would be good to know what evidence was presented in support of the camera.
Presuming its an older Gatsco type, were 2 photos presented or just a radar measurement I wonder? Also was any registered calibration claim made?

"You're on trial today for murdering Mrs Smith - what's your defence?"

"Well, your honour, my Dad says I didn't do it..."

"OK then, you're free to go!"

Either the Australian legal system is a joke or there's WAY more to this!!!
