Google Street View Car tagged with GPS Tracker

Article by: Darren Griffin
Date: 8 Feb 2010

pocketgpsworld.comAh those Germans and their endless sense of humour! A German 'Free Art & Technology' group claim to have attached a GPS tracker to a Google Street View car surveying Berlin streets this weekend.

However it seems either the data logger has run flat or Google have spotted the device as the last position recorded was late yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

A web page here purports to show the movements of the pranked Street View car as recorded by the GPS logger.

The fact that they chose to use Google Maps to show the logged tracks is even funnier than the prank given that the 'Free Art & Technology' group seem to consider Google 'evil' and use a number of expletives to describe the Mountain View company and its Street View service!

And it transpires that the whole prank was a fake.

As reported in the Guardian today.

Google have confirmed they were not operating StreetView cars in Germany this weekend and that the 'Free Art' group had instead faked a StreetView car. Man those Germans and they're sense of humour eh Cool
