Garmin updated GPSMAP series with GPSMAP 64 range

Garmin have unveiled the latest update to its popular GPSMAP series of rugged outdoor handhelds.

The GPSMAP 64 sports a 2.6 in colour display which, importantly, is transreflective and so visible in direct sunlight. Internal memory has been increased to 4GB and a quad helix antenna with dual GPS and GLONASS support ensures it will be able to offer an accurate position even in demanding conditions.

It comes in three variants, all rated IPX7 for water resistance and supports standard AA batteries and an optional rechargeable NiMH battery pack.

There is the base GPSMAP 64 version, the GPSMAP 64s, which adds a barometric altimeter and 3-axis electronic compass plus wireless connectivity which allows it to handle wireless data transfer with other compatible Garmin handhelds and receive emails and texts when paired with a smartphone. And the GPSMAP64 st which has 8GB of internal memory and comes preloaded with a Recreational Map for Europe.

The GPSMAP 64 series will be available in February with the GPSMAP64 retailing at £269.99, the GPSMAP 64s at £359.99 and the GPSMAP 64 at at £419.99.
