Garmin are set to release 2 new Dash Cam models in October 2015 - the Dash Cam 30 and Dash Cam 35. Both models are standalone driving recorders that record in full 1080 HD and have integrated screens for instant playback. They also have shock sensors to automatically mark footage to be saved. They can be used as handheld cameras to photograph any evidence in case of an accident.

Priced at £129.99, the Dash Cam 30 is a basic recorder without GPS and has a smaller 1.4 inch screen. The Dash Cam 35 is not much more at £159.99 and features a larger 3 inch screen, GPS and Driver Alerts. The Driver Alerts are audible warnings for speed and redlight cameras and you will also be warned if you are too close to the vehicle in front.

Software is available for both Windows (7 and higher) and Mac (Mavericks and higher) to browse and review footage as well as saving snapshots. It's as yet unclear whether 3rd Party POIs (like our own CamerAlert database) can be used for the warnings or if it is only compatible with the more expensive Garmin/Cyclops database.

Any idea if it gives current speed readout whilst driving?
