A driver has escaped a jail sentence after failed attempts to dodge speeding tickets.

Narinder Singh's two cars, a Bentley Continental and a Mercedes, were recorded breaking the limit several times by speed cameras.

The offences took place between February 2011 and September 2014 in London and Essex.

Singh alleged that others were driving on each occasion. Consequently, three people, who it turns out had never heard of their accuser, were summonsed to appear in court.

Consequently, Singh was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, perverting the course of justice.

He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £1,500 costs.

A spokesman for Essex Police commented: "Singh put innocent drivers through the stress and anxiety of being summonsed to court, forcing them to defend themselves for offences they had not committed."

How on earth did this even get to court? Surely basic questions like "did those people have access to the vehicles on those dates" could be confirmed before wasting court time? Rolling Eyes

The speeder should have gone to prison.

I hope that those innocent drivers sue him for all of the stress and anxiety that he caused them to suffer.

Robert.
