Average speed cameras have been installed on Forth Road Bridge and will be operative from Thursady 17th September.

The cameras will be in action until the end of the year policing traffic flow and safety during construction works.

Earlier on in the year the speed limit was reduced to 40 mph on the bridge due to motorists slowing down to look at work on the new Forth crossing - The Queensferry Crossing which is due to open in 2016.

The cameras are now in place along the northbound road from south of the Forth Road Bridge to Admiralty junction.

A spokesman for Transport Scotland commented: "We have been impressed with the levels of compliance with the 40 mph speed limit since it was introduced on the A90 northbound. We have waited for as long as possible before introducing the safety cameras to the A90, now significant operations are underway within close proximity to live traffic.

He added: "Additional safety cameras are expected to be installed southbound on the A90 in this area later this year."
