A motorist who attempted to drive through a Saudi Arabian red light camera without activating it has, perhaps unsurprisingly, been caught.

The attempt, which was filmed from inside his car and features his running commentary on how to beat the camera, involved the vehicle creeping at a very low speed past the lights.

As he pootles toward the red light he states: "I have found the best way to beat the Saher anti-speed camera - you drive slowly, very slowly through the red light and you will see that nothing happens. You cannot be caught".

On entering the junction, his film then shows the camera flashing. The video, posted to YouTube last week, has already had over 80,000 views of the misguided episode.

Saher is the name of a system of speed and red light traffic cameras started in Saudi back in 2010. It has proved unpopular with some drivers who sought guidance from religious leaders. It is reported that religious scholars responded by saying that cheating the system was not allowed and all fines have to be paid.

When driving a camel you should always obey red lights.
