As a Mac user I have created a pair of icons suitable for use by TomTom owners. The idea being that when your GO is mounted they will indicate which disk is the internal flash ram and which is the SD card.

Installation of the Icons is in the normal way but if anyone wants guidance just ask, it is very simple.

Mac Version

Windows Version

The Mac icons are available for download here and the PC Icons here.

Ah yes, this is particularly for x20 devices. You can still use one of the icons though Smile

Darren

My 920 has a 8gb card and today, i cant get the SD card to show up when connected. It did briefly the first time and then the Mac crashed.

Funny thing is the card works fine, I can switch maps and everything, but it wont appear on the mac.

BTW, where do you place the cons..which folder?

Before anyone asks, I know one of the regulars here has produced something similar that automatically adds descriptive icons on the PC. I'll PM him to see if he is ready to release it yet.

This could be due to the card, is it an SDHC? You might try a soft reset of the 920.

  • In the Finder, select one of the Icon files from my zip file.
  • Hit Command-I (File -> Get Info).
  • Click on the small icon preview image at the top left of the Get Info window.
  • Hit Command-C (Edit -> Copy).
  • Close the Get Info window.
  • In the Finder, select the destination file or folder for the custom icon. In this case the mounted disk icon for the 920.
  • Hit Command-I to open the selection’s Get Info window.
  • Click the small icon image at the top left of the Get Info window.
  • Hit Command-V (Edit -> Paste) to paste the custom icon.
  • Close the Get Info window.

You can do this for any file or folder on a Mac.

Darren,

Thanks

Didnt know this OSX feature!

Yes, the card is SDHC, but it worked fine the day before. I was able to select either disk in Home and update accordingly. Yesterday, I monuted the unit and both drives appeared on the Mac, but then the Mac froze and I had to reboot the computer!

I always do a soft reboot of the Go every time I connect to the computer or switch cards. I only use fast SDHC cards and they both work for switching maps etc.

I guess I will just have to use the card reader to manually update them, but that does not help with mapshare.

Any chance of putting these into .ico format as per Here then they can be used on Windows platforms via Explorer and (possibly) TT Home - Mike

Ask and ye shall receive Smile

I haven't tested these so if you could it'd be useful feedback. Download link is here.

If they do work, grab a screen-shot and I'll add a separate PC post?

Nope, doesn't work, probably down to the size not being quite correct and the one that is used has all its values hidden from view! - Mike

Size incorrect? They have been created using a windows Icon utility so should be the right format?

All I can see is the globe with two red hands, this is with the original icon deleted from the device! - so either Windows remembers an icon or a parameter is incorrect, Windows can open and see the ico files but when they are placed into the root of the drive they are not picked up - Mike

Did you edit the Autorun.inf file? This dictates what .ico file is displayed.

I've just ventured into the horrible world of Windows and tested and it works for me:

I meant to post yesterday when I updated the site but see that Darren beat me to it. Twisted Evil The worst bit is that I was that I was in a PM conversation with him so we had seen each others attempts before releasing them.

Mine can be downloaded here with the instructions and example autorun.inf files to use. Use either set as you wish. Thanks to AndyP for the draft proof-read and spotting a major problem with it.

This does work fine when you install a normal SD card to the 720 Embarassed this is yet another trick the SDHC 8GB card prevents you from using correctly Crying or Very sad

With a 256MB card installed it works great.
