ReadMoreUnsurprisingly we've confiscated the keys to the Newsletter from MaFt and he won't be allowed near the computer until he apologises. We took bets on how many complaints we'd receive in response to his April 1st Newsletter spoof as, whenever we've done something in the past, we've had a dozen or so very strongly worded emails from people who seem to have had the humour gene extracted at birth. I'm delighted to report that everyone who did get in touch this time did so in good humour and we all lost the bet.

GLONASS had an 11 hour outage

ReadMoreGLONASS OutageA major outage of GLONASS occurred earlier this week with every satellite in the constellation broadcasting corrupted ephemeris data. The result was the entire network was unusable for 11 hours from just after midnight Tuesday (GMT+1).

Whilst there has been no official word from the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces who operate GLONASS, GPSWorld reports that the outage was a result of bad ephemeris data being uploaded to the satellites (see our GPS primer here).

TomTom Launch Upgraded Watches with Heart Monitor

ReadMoreTomTom Runner CardioTomTom have today expanded their Sports hardware with the launch of the TomTom Runner Cardio.

An upgraded version of their TomTom Runner GPS Sports Watch, Cardio adds a heart-rate monitor. There is also a Cardio version of the Multi-Sport model.

The Runner Cardio is available for pre-order at £249.99 and the Multi-Sport Cardio can be pre-ordered for £279.99.

Casio GPW-100 GPS Watch Announced

ReadMoreCasio G-Shock GPSCasio have announced a new G-Shock model, the GPW-1000, that has a novel use of GPS.

It doesn't navigate you anywhere, it doesn't even tell you where you are. The GPS is used solely for automatic time updating.

Lots of places have a radio signal that can set watches, and the GPW-1000 will use these by default. But if the radio signal isn't available then it switches to GPS to set the current time.

Speed Camera Data Updated - v12.041 - 02 Apr 2014 & This Week's Subscriber Award Winners

Of the 39 unique submitters that were the first to submit qualifying reports this week, congratulations are due to the following six members, who have won a one year subscription extension:
