ReadMoreAs an experiment, this week I have been running a couple of smartphone nav apps against each other to compare the routes they produce. My default app has been TomTom for a long time. I find it easy to use and it produces routes that more closely match what I would choose. But on one trip last week I decided to fire up Garmin's app and give that a whirl. The Garmin/TomTom debate is much like Canon/Nikon in that each side vociferously defends their preference but in my testing I found that Garmin produced routes that frequently seemed less than optimal, often going miles out of the way when a more direct route was available. I tried it on a dozen or so journeys of between 20 and 60 miles and these weird routes occurred too often to be ignored. Has anyone else found this with Garmin?
