News: The Next GPS Satellite Is Set To Launch Tonight

Tonight an Atlas V will launch the latest GPS satellite into orbit to maintain the constellation of navigation satellites managed by the United States Air Force. Previous GPS Satellites have been launched on the Delta II and Delta IV rockets, with the early satellites using Atlas E/F configurations, making todays launch the inaugural mission for GPS on an Atlas V rocket and 28 years since the last GPS launch on an Atlas booster.

The launch is scheduled to take place between 5:38 and 5:56pm EDT tonight and you can track the countdown and watch the launch video on AmericaSpace with the AmericaSpace.com Launch Tracker . The countdown progress can be followed with live mission updates and a video feed of the final countdown and launch will commence about 20 minutes before the launch at 5:18pm EDT or 22:18 BST.
